LRD constitution 1912
Founded in July 1912 LRD has maintained the principles embodied in its initial statement throughout the last 100 years, and provided its affiliates with a wealth of information and research.
LRD is now a company limited by guarantee
The 2018 annual general meeting decided that the legal form of the Labour Research Department (LRD) should change from that of an unincorporated association to a company limited by guarantee. It was considered that this would provide greater protection to the members and affiliates of the LRD and establish a clearer legal entity for subscribers and suppliers.
The Labour Research Department (Company Number 11429402) was incorporated as a limited company on 22 June 2018, and all existing individual members and affiliates are now members and affiliated members of the new company and continue to enjoy the same rights and benefits as before (see articles). Following a General Meeting on 17 September 2018, the activities, assets and employees were transferred to the new company on 1 October.

The Labour Research Department has over 4,000 trade union organisations and individuals, including 51 national unions, representing more than 99% of total TUC membership, affiliated or subscribing to its services.
“If our trade union branch could affiliate to one organisation it would be the Labour Research Department (LRD). The information provided in LRD publications are indispensable tools for workplace reps to know their own and members rights.”
